The presiding judge directs the proceedings at the hearing and issues the necessary orders to that end.
The presiding judge may, on the basis of compelling reasons, of his own motion, or upon the demand of the public prosecutor, or at the request of the defendant, order that a question which the defendant, his counsel, or the public prosecutor wishes to ask, be put through his intervention.
The presiding judge may charge a member of the multi-judge chamber designated by him with the direction of the proceedings in his stead. This member shall exercise the tasks and powers that have been conferred upon the presiding judge.
De voorzitter heeft de leiding van het onderzoek op de terechtzitting en geeft daartoe de nodige bevelen.
De voorzitter kan op grond van klemmende redenen, ambtshalve of op vordering van de officier van justitie of op verzoek van de verdachte, bevelen dat een vraag, die de verdachte of diens raadsman of de officier van justitie wenst te stellen, door zijn tussenkomst wordt gesteld.
De voorzitter kan een door hem aangewezen lid van de meervoudige kamer in zijn plaats belasten met de leiding van het onderzoek. Dit lid oefent de taken en bevoegdheden uit die aan de voorzitter zijn toegekend.
