Alimony guidelines (Tremanormen): report, needs and capacity tables
ReferenceThe "Rapport alimentatienormen" (known as the Tremanormen) is the methodology for calculating child and spousal maintenance developed by the judiciary's Alimony Expert Group (Expertgroep Alimentatie). Dutch courts apply it when setting maintenance amounts, although it is not formally legislation.
The report is accompanied by two tables: the needs table (behoeftetabel) — how much a child's maintenance requires depending on family income and the number of children — and the capacity table (draagkrachttabel) — what share of income the paying party can afford to contribute.
The documents are updated annually (amounts are indexed under Article 1:402a of the Civil Code). Because the figures are critical and change regularly, we do not reproduce the tables on this site — always consult the current official version via the link below.
The legal basis of maintenance obligations is Title 17 of Book 1 of the Civil Code (Articles 1:392–1:408) in our catalogue.
