The holder of a promissory note to bearer is obliged to demand payment within the period of three days after the day on which he accepted that paper in payment, that day not included, and he must, in the event of non-payment, within an equal period thereafter, offer the promissory note for withdrawal to the person who gave it to him in payment, all on pain of forfeiture of his recourse against the latter, but without prejudice to his right against the person who signed the promissory note.
If in the promissory note the day is expressed on which it is payable, the period of three days only begins to run on the day following the expressed day of payment.
De houder eener promesse aan toonder is verpligt voldoening te vorderen binnen den tijd van drie dagen na den dag, op welken hij dat papier heeft in betaling genomen, die dag niet daaronder gerekend, en hij moet, bij wanbetaling, binnen een gelijken termijn daarna, de promesse ter intrekking aanbieden aan dengenen die hem dezelve heeft in betaling gegeven, alles op verbeurte van zijn verhaal tegen denzelven, doch onverminderd zijn regt tegen dengenen die de promesse heeft geteekend.
Indien bij de promesse de dag is uitgedrukt op welken dezelve betaalbaar is, begint de termijn van drie dagen eerst te loopen daags na den uitgedrukten betaaldag.
