The cheque, which is issued and payable in the same country, must be presented for payment within the period of eight days. If, however, it appears from the cheque itself that it is intended to circulate in another country, this period is extended to either twenty or to seventy days, depending on whether it was intended to circulate in the same or in another continent. In this respect, cheques issued and payable in a country in Europe and intended to circulate in a coastal country of the Mediterranean Sea, or vice versa, are considered as intended to circulate in the same continent.
The cheque, issued in the Realm in Europe and payable in the Dutch East Indies, Suriname or Curaçao, or vice versa, must be presented for payment within a period of seventy days.
The cheque, which is issued in a country other than that where it is payable, must be presented within a period of either twenty days or seventy days, depending on whether the place of issue and the place of payment are situated in the same or in another continent.
In this respect, cheques issued in a country in Europe and payable in a coastal country of the Mediterranean Sea, or vice versa, are considered to be issued and payable in the same continent.
The above-mentioned time limits begin to run from the day stated on the cheque as the date of issue.
De chèque, die in hetzelfde land uitgegeven en betaalbaar is, moet binnen den termijn van acht dagen ter betaling worden aangeboden. Indien echter uit de chèque zelve blijkt, dat zij bestemd is om in een ander land te circuleeren, wordt deze termijn verlengd, hetzij tot twintig, hetzij tot zeventig dagen, al naar gelang zij bestemd was in hetzelfde of in een ander werelddeel te circuleeren. Te dien aanzien worden de chèques, uitgegeven en betaalbaar in een land in Europa en bestemd om te circuleeren in een kustland van de Middellandsche Zee of omgekeerd, beschouwd als bestemd om te circuleeren in hetzelfde werelddeel.
De chèque, uitgegeven in het Rijk in Europa en betaalbaar in Nederlandsch-Indië, Suriname of Curaçao, of omgekeerd, moet ter betaling aangeboden worden binnen den tijd van zeventig dagen.
De chèque, die uitgegeven is in een ander land dan dat, waar zij betaalbaar is, moet worden aangeboden binnen een termijn, hetzij van twintig dagen, hetzij van zeventig dagen, naar gelang de plaats van uitgifte en de plaats van betaling gelegen zijn in hetzelfde of in een ander werelddeel.
Te dien aanzien worden de chèques, uitgegeven in een land in Europa en betaalbaar in een kustland van de Middellandsche Zee of omgekeerd, beschouwd als uitgegeven en betaalbaar in hetzelfde werelddeel.
De bovengenoemde termijnen beginnen te loopen van den dag, op de chèque als datum van uitgifte vermeld.
