If an optant is obliged, after the completion of the option, to do everything possible to lose his other nationality or nationalities, he shall be notified by Our Minister after the option that he must file a petition to renounce that other nationality or those other nationalities within a period of three months. A copy of this notification shall be sent to the authority that received the option declaration.
If the optant has submitted or offered a petition for renunciation or a declaration of renunciation to the authorities of the country or countries of his other nationality or nationalities and no decision has yet been taken thereon by them, Our Minister shall, after six months, request the person concerned to inform him of the state of affairs regarding the loss of the other nationality or nationalities.
If the authorities of the country of the other nationality provide no or insufficient cooperation regarding the petition or the declaration of renunciation, Our Minister shall decide on the consequences thereof for the obligation to renounce.
Indien een optant verplicht is om na de totstandkoming van de optie het mogelijke te zullen doen om zijn andere nationaliteit of nationaliteiten te verliezen, wordt hem na de optie door Onze Minister bericht dat hij binnen een termijn van drie maanden een verzoek moet doen tot afstand van die andere nationaliteit of nationaliteiten. Van dit bericht wordt een afschrift gezonden aan de autoriteit die de optieverklaring in ontvangst heeft genomen.
Heeft de optant het verzoek tot afstand dan wel een verklaring van afstand bij de autoriteiten van het land of de landen van zijn andere nationaliteit of nationaliteiten ingediend of aangeboden en is daarover door deze nog geen beslissing genomen, dan verzoekt Onze Minister na zes maanden de betrokkene hem te informeren over de stand van zaken met betrekking tot het verlies van de andere nationaliteit of nationaliteiten.
Verlenen de autoriteiten van het land van de andere nationaliteit geen of onvoldoende medewerking aan het verzoek of de verklaring van afstand, dan beslist Onze Minister over de gevolgen daarvan voor de afstandsverplichting.
