The members' council consists of the chairpersons of the district boards, as well as one member from each district, on the understanding that for each district one civil-law notary and one junior civil-law notary or candidate civil-law notary shall have a seat in the members' council. Each member has a substitute. The substitutes for the chairpersons are the deputy chairpersons of the district boards.
The members and their substitutes shall be elected by the relevant district meeting for a term of three years, and they are eligible for re-election for the same term only once.
The members' council shall appoint, by 1 October of each year, the chair and the deputy chair of the members' council from among the chairs of the regional boards for a period of one year. In the performance of their duties, they may be assisted by secretaries from the office of the KNB.
De ledenraad bestaat uit de voorzitters van de ringbesturen, alsmede een lid uit elke ring, met dien verstande dat voor elke ring één notaris en één toegevoegd notaris of kandidaat-notaris in de ledenraad zitting hebben. Ieder lid heeft een plaatsvervanger. De plaatsvervangers van de voorzitters zijn de plaatsvervangend voorzitters van de ringbesturen.
De leden en hun plaatsvervangers worden door de desbetreffende ringvergadering gekozen voor een termijn van drie jaren en zij zijn slechts eenmaal voor eenzelfde termijn herkiesbaar.
De ledenraad wijst per 1 oktober van elk jaar uit de voorzitters van de ringbesturen voor de periode van één jaar de voorzitter en de plaatsvervangend voorzitter van de ledenraad aan. Deze kunnen zich bij de vervulling van hun taak doen bijstaan door secretarissen van het bureau van de KNB.
