In the event of the transfer of a paper to bearer or to order, the person who according to that paper is the debtor, and to whom it can be attributed that the paper is in circulation against his will or that his signature is forged or the paper is falsified, shall lose the power to invoke such against the acquirer in good faith and his successors in title.
In geval van overdracht van een papier aan toonder of aan order verliest degene die volgens dat papier schuldenaar is, en aan wie is toe te rekenen dat het papier tegen zijn wil in omloop is of dat zijn handtekening vals of het papier vervalst is, de bevoegdheid zich daarop te beroepen tegenover de verkrijger te goeder trouw en diens rechtsopvolgers.
