Payment made on one of the copies operates as a discharge, even if it were not stipulated that such payment nullifies the force of the other copies. However, the drawee remains bound in respect of each accepted copy that has not been surrendered to him.
The endorser, who has transferred the copies to different persons, as well as the subsequent endorsers, are bound in respect of all copies which bear their signature and which have not been surrendered.
De betaling, op één der exemplaren gedaan, bevrijdt, ook al ware niet bedongen, dat die betaling de kracht der andere exemplaren te niet doet. Echter blijft de betrokkene verbonden wegens elk geaccepteerd exemplaar, dat hem niet is uitgeleverd.
De endossant, die de exemplaren aan verschillende personen heeft overgedragen, alsook de latere endossanten, zijn verbonden wegens alle exemplaren, die hunne handteekening dragen en die niet zijn uitgeleverd.
