Without prejudice to the right of other states to institute legal proceedings in accordance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Netherlands criminal law shall apply to any person who, within or above the exclusive economic zone, acts in contravention of a regulation laid down by or pursuant to this Act.
In the investigation and prosecution of criminal offences as referred to in the first paragraph, Section 7 of Part XII of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea shall be observed.
Onverminderd het recht van andere staten om overeenkomstig het VN-Zeerechtverdrag tot rechtsvervolging over te gaan, is de Nederlandse strafwet van toepassing op een ieder die in of boven de exclusieve economische zone in strijd handelt met een bij of krachtens deze wet gesteld voorschrift.
Bij de opsporing en vervolging van strafbare feiten als bedoeld in het eerste lid wordt afdeling 7 van Deel XII van het VN-Zeerechtverdrag in acht genomen.
