A natural obligation (natuurlijke verbintenis) is a legally unenforceable obligation.
A natural obligation (natuurlijke verbintenis) exists:
when the law or a juridical act denies enforceability to an obligation;
when a person has an urgent moral obligation towards another of such a nature that the performance thereof, although not legally enforceable, must be regarded according to societal standards as the satisfaction of a performance due to that other person.
Een natuurlijke verbintenis is een rechtens niet- afdwingbare verbintenis.
Een natuurlijke verbintenis bestaat:
wanneer de wet of een rechtshandeling aan een verbintenis de afdwingbaarheid onthoudt;
wanneer iemand jegens een ander een dringende morele verplichting heeft van zodanige aard dat naleving daarvan, ofschoon rechtens niet afdwingbaar, naar maatschappelijke opvattingen als voldoening van een aan die ander toekomende prestatie moet worden aangemerkt.
